2004/05 Season Review
A serialised account of our season by our man who has been at every match home and away - Ewan Lithgow
Part eleven - May
May started with a surprise announcement as Dick Shaw MBE resigned / retired from his post as Club Secretary before the final match at Falkirk. He had served nine years with the club after joining up as part of Norman Blount's 1995 revolution that invigorated the whole club. Meantime, as Stuart Lovell signed on for a further year, manager Scott confirmed that David Craig, Emilio Jaconelli and Steven Bell would all be leaving the club. Craig will be joining Brechin City for next season so we'll be seeing him again.

Coming back soon
The league season finished with a trip to Champions Falkirk on the final day. Falkirk had lost their long unbeaten home record in their previous home game against St Mirren but Queens were anxious to clinch 4th spot and needed a win to do so. The home side of course were set to collect the trophy after the game and were looking for a win to finish their season in front of a large crowd. The Queens fans responded superbly though with 411 of them making the trip and outsinging their opponents for the whole game.

On the park, Queens made a fine start but were hit by a sucker punch when Andy Lawrie hammered home a loose ball after Carr had blocked McBreen's first effort. Richie Barnard made a couple of excellent saves to keep us in touch but in the second half it was one way traffic towards the home goal. With ten minutes remaining Alan Kernaghan deflected English's free kick past his own keeper for an equaliser then with just three minutes to go Willie Gibson seized on an error from Darren Barr to set up McNiven for the winner.

So 4th spot was clinched, the highest position in 42 years, and the team celebrated with the massed ranks of fans in the sun at Falkirk. Some of the players even handed over their kit whilst the Falkirk fans were sporting enough to applaud the Queens team from the park after their deserved win. With the squad to all intents and purposes already in place for next season it'll be a quiet off season for the club for a change as they look to mount a bigger challenge to the top end next season.
