MATCH SUMMARY
Manager John Connolly picked up his first trophy of the season with a solid performance from his newly formed team today as they defeated hosts Annan Athletic by three goals to nil to lift the Scottish Brewers Cup at Galabank today.

Queen's fielded a totally different team from that which had defeated Whitehill Welfare in the first round on Saturday by four goals to one. The only remaining players in the squad were Geoff Paterson, Robison, McColm and Boyle, and all four were on the bench.

For the first hour Queen's looked like a side just coming together, some of the passing was tentative as players were not quite sure if their intended receiver was thinking along the same lines. Despite the tentative start it was the Doonhamers who took an early lead after only seven minutes as the welcome sight of Sandy Hodge galloped toward goal through the heart of the Annan defence only to be brought to ground outside the box, Sandy however managed to release the ball back to Tony Nelson who played in a deep curling cross which was nodded on to Warren Hawke. Hawke showed that he was as sharp as ever and coolly side footed the ball past the Annan 'keeper Potter ignoring the calls of the home side for offside.

The second half was much improved and Queens really got a kick-start when Andy Aitken was adjudged to have fouled an onrushing Annan forward as he shielded the ball back to Mathieson, the referee gave a penalty but Smiler had a work with his old team mate Mark Nichol and then promptly dived to his right to block the Annan front man's shot.

Queen's took heart an Annan faltered, within five minutes Warren had notched his second as Tony Nelson made a surging run into the box before feeding the ball to Hawke who again just had to tap the ball into the empty net.

Queens had the game won by this time and substitute Ray McDonald showed some excellent skill with his first touch and was unlucky to see his shot strike the post with the 'keeper well beaten. With almost the final kick of the game Warren Hawke became the second Queen's player this weekend to score a hat-trick as he picked up a through ball from McDonald and finished clinically.
