MATCH SUMMARY
With goalkeeper Bryn Halliwell signing up for a year just prior to kick off Gordon Chisholm fielded a side with three newcomers including Halliwell. The other two new boys being Craig Barr at right back and Stewart Kean up front. The formation was 4-4-2 with either Dobbie or Kean dropping back into midfield as the need arose. Craig Reid played the first half in the centre of defence alongside Jim Thomson with Andy Aitken getting most of the second half. New on the bench were Jamie Adams and Gerry McLaughlan with Adams getting a good run in the second half and looking fully recovered from any signs of injury.

Sean blasts but Summersgill saves
Queens looked sharp from the start and with what was often a three man front line they posed the Annan defence some real problems although it has to be said that the Annan rear guard performed admirably against what will be the strongest strike force they are likely to meet this season. On just five minutes Craig Summersgill made a fine block to deny a close range effort from Sean O'Connor which was closely followed by a free header nodded over the bar by Stewart Kean from a Bob Harris corner. Craig Barr then tried his luck with a cheeky chip from the far side of the park that landed on top of the net.

The keeper is beaten but Kean's header goes over the bar
Queens commanded the opening twenty minutes before Annan enjoyed their only real possession in a ten minute spell up to the half hour mark. Queens were soon back in control and Steve Tosh was unlucky to see his effort well saved by Summersgill as he shot through a ruck of players before Sean O'Connor turned former Queen's man Stuart Hill inside out only to see his effort again well saved by Summersgill. The best football of the half came on the stroke of half time with a flowing move instigated by Steve Tosh and executed by Paul Burns down the right with a cross that Sean O'Connor could have done better with as Summersgill was stranded. The half ended 0-0.

Sean's effort clears the bar
Goals soon came in the second half with Steve Tosh notching the opener just after the restart. Sean O'Connor then struck the post with an effort that fell nicely for Stewart Kean who did the necessary and slipped it into the back of the net to double the lead.

Jamie McQuilken was introduced for Sean O'Connor with ten minutes of the half gone and another five minutes on saw Jamie Adams for Neil Macfarlane, Scott Robertson for Paul Burns and Andy Aitken for Jim Thomson complete the substitutions for Queens.

Steve Tosh fed Jamie McQuilken who in turn squared the ball across the box for Stewart Kean, the new striker mis-hit his shot but it fell kindly for Stephen Dobbie who demonstrated great composure in teeing up the ball and drilling it home.

With five minutes left Stewart Kean whipped a deep cross along the edge of the six yard box and Bob Harris managed to stretch in to poke the ball into the net for number four. The final goal completed the scoring as Stephen Dobbie picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and lined himself up to slot the ball home past the substitute Annan 'keeper.

A useful work out for both sides.
