MATCH SUMMARY
An almost full strength Queens side took to the field today to face a similarly presented Dunfermline side. And in the first 35 minutes you would have been forgiven for thinking that it was Queens who were the higher league stars. In just ten minutes clever striker David McNiven should have opened the scoring for the home side as he was set up with only Stillie to beat but could only curl the ball into the hands of the 'keeper with the goal at his mercy.

First goal at Palmerston for McNiven
He made up for the miss just five minutes later though as a neat combination with Steve Bowey gave him a similar sight of goal and this time he curled the ball around the goalie and into the back of the net. Minutes later and it should have been two as Bowser broke clean through and elected to bend the ball around Stillie, which he did, however he also bent it around the post. Queens continued to play the better football as they stroked the ball about the pitch with Bowser as usual running the show.
It all changed though in the last seven or eight minutes of the half and started with a penalty claim by the Pars front men being waved away followed by some good work mainly down their right hand side that forced Colin Scott into showing why he is such a valuable player to Queens when he is match fit. Two saves in particular emphasised this as first he got down low to his right to palm away an effort and then shortly after flew high to his left to push the ball over the bar, added to this a couple of point blank blocks and you could say that he earned his half-time reprieve.

Scott and Mehmet tangle
In the dying minutes of the first half Emilio Jaconelli looked to have picked up a minor knock and was replaced by Gary Wood and at half-time two more substitutions were made as Craig Samson took the place of Colin Scott and Paul Burns replaced Brian McColligan allowing David Bagan to take up a more central midfield role.

The half started disastrously though as within four minutes Queens conceded a goal and a disappointing one to lose at that as a high ball was lobbed over the out rushing Craig Samson by Billy Mehmet and only just made it into the net as Thomson and Reid raced back to clear.

Mehmet heads well over with English stranded
There was no onslaught from the Pars though as the game never reached the heights of the first half. A back header by Scott Wilson made his 'keeper stretch to collect, Queens replaced McLaughlin with Gibson and Samson managed to push a fierce strike onto the post before the mass substitutions took the edge off the game.

Derek Lyle had a chance to score against his old team mates half an hour into the half but Jim Thomson was having none of it and cleared off the line, Tan Man tried again as he returned the clearance with an overhead kick but it again was cleared and that was about the end of any action.

Queens made two final substitutions with Stephen Payne and Paul Hilland coming on for David Bagan and Brian Reid respectively.

On the hole it was a good match played competitively in the main and Queens fans will be pleased with the performances of the new boys on show.
