MATCH SUMMARY
For some unknown reason today the match kicked off a full four minutes before 3.00pm, these four minutes were all it took for St Johnstone to take the lead in what was to turn out a comfortable victory for a very organised side.

Queens lined up with an almost identical team to last week but with Steve Bowey returning and Stephen Payne making way with Paul Burns moving across to the right wing.

The first Saints goal came just after official kick off time and came after the second corner in a row when Kevin James was allowed a free header at the back of the six yard box from a deep corner that he headed back in for Steven Milne to twist and shoot past Scott.

Milne twists, shoots and scores
In fourteen minutes John O'Neill who had a twinge pre-match decided that his hip wasn't up to it and had to be replaced. David McNiven was brought on in his place. On twenty three minutes and it has to be said, against the run of play Queens equalised as Brian McLaughlin stretched his legs to there limit and prodded home a superb cross ball from Paul Burns to equalise and give the home support some unexpected hope.

The hope lasted only a few minutes though as Queens were soon to fall behind again as Brian McLaughlin played a ball out of defence that was too short for Steve Bowey to pick up and allowed Goran Stanic to pick up, the former Red Star Belgrade defender made the most continental of runs into the box with a superb forward roll over the imaginary legs of Brian McLaughlin. The spot kick was duly converted by Paul Sheerin to restore the lead of the Perth side.

Queens then received a bit of a reprieve as Steven Milne converted a good goal that was crossed off for offside.

As the sides switched around after the break there were no changes, however the ineffectual Willie Gibson was replaced after only a few minutes of the half with trialist Dimitri Pronovyeh, then a third substitution as Stephen Payne replaced Scott Robertson and moved wide right with Paul Burns coming inside. In between the substitutions Eric Paton had a twenty five yard effort hat was deflected over the bar for a corner.

Sheerin scored his second of the afternoon soon after as he collected the ball in tons of space on the left and looked for a shooting opportunity. He found one and shot, forcing a great save from Colin Scott but the ball fell back to him and his second effort beat Scott but looked to be covered all the way by Stuart Hill but the big Cumbrian only managed a fresh air swipe at the ball as it skewed into the back of the net to finish the match as a contest.

Hill fresh airs it as Scott can't believe it
The last action of the match saw Steve Bowey shoot from outside the box and see his effort clip the top of the bar with Cuthbert struggling to get to the ball.

All in all this was a comfortable win for an impressive St Johnstone side. It looks as though this year will be a massive struggle for Queens with so many players that we know so well in terms of ability and limitations - other sides have improved but we seem to have just consolidated.
