MATCH SUMMARY
Queens wound up their pre-season friendlies this evening with a hard fought 3-2 win against Annan Athletic at Galabank in what could be described as a classic 'game of two halves'.

With Annan fielding their strongest starting eleven of their own pre-season so far Queens made eleven changes from the side that started against Motherwell on Saturday as the man in charge tonight, Warren Pearson, looked to get some match fitness under the belts of Colin Scott, Eric Paton, Derek Lyle and Jim Thomson.

It was Annan who looked the stronger side throughout the first half and it was no surprise when Marcus Thompson gave the homesters the lead in twenty five minutes as he followed up on a Grant Parker shot that had rebounded off the post. Annan then pressed forward and with the Queen's defence looking vulnerable Mike Jack shot wide with Colin Scott well beaten and then the same player produced a cross that had to be tipped onto the top of the bar to prevent a goal. The second Annan goal game when a corner from the right caught the Dumfries defence at sixes and sevens at the back post allowing Grant Parker to capitalise by smashing home the loose ball.

Lyle looks to get through
The half time whistle was a welcome one for Queens who took the opportunity to restructure things and play with three at the back, Hill, Thomson and Maxwell. Trialist Stuart McGrady came on down the right hand side and James Baty on the left with both Mark Whorlow and Gareth Campbell being replaced.

It took just ten minutes for the more offensive Queens line up to pay dividends as Eric Paton struck an effort that Motherwell 'keeper Dougie Calder (playing for the home side to help out tonight) could only push the ball into the net from his unsighted position.

Goal mouth action
Five minutes later and Derek Lyle tied the scores with a fine volleyed finish from an Eric Paton cut back that had been fed through to him by McGrady. Lyle could have scored another thirty minutes into the half as Stuart Robertson played him through the defence for a one-on-one with the 'keeper but Calder blocked well.

Eric Paton then demonstrated how a one-on-one should be finished off as he calmy strode through the defence and slipped the ball past Calder and off the inside of the left hand post with the ball finishing up in the back of the net.

The final action of the match saw a free kick from youngster Peter Watson for Annan well held by Colin Scott as he head to dive across his goals to get there.

Scott gets across well
The exercise was to get the players match fitness improved and a strong Annan side ensured that it was no walk over and that the returning injured worked hard for their win.
