MATCH REPORT

Gordon Chisholm made three changes to his starting line-up today. Craig Sives was in for Andy Aitken, David Weatherston for Gary Arbuckle and Stewart Kean for Sean O'Connor, it looked like a solid formation with Queen hoping to bounce back from a run of poor results. It was Clyde who created the early chances as in fourteen minutes Pat Clark was first to a dipping cross from the right but could only send the ball over the top of the home crossbar with Jim Thomson well beaten. Queens immediately responded and a Jamie McQuilken free kick beat the entire defence only to land at the fee to f Craig Sives, the on-loan Hearts defender failed to control the ball and sent it well over Hutton's bar. The short spell of goalmouth action continued with Clyde play maker Willie McLaren hitting the post from wide right with Bell beaten, then McLaren should have done better than shoot over Bell's goal when clean through.

Things calmed down in goalmouth terms for a short period before Paul Burns hit the far post with a curling effort from the right hand side of the box. Stewart Kean was next to miss as he sent an effort wide following some good linking play around the box. Just on the stroke of half-time Pat Clarke thought that he had scored for Clyde as he twisted back before wheeling on the ball to slam it into the net. The referee had spotted the use of the strikers arm in controlling the ball and ruled the effort out. The final action of the half saw a static Queens defence admire a run through their midst by Billy Gibson who was a fraction away from connecting with a dipping free kick from the left hand side.

It hit the net but had been handled by Clarke first

Whilst there were no changes at half-time the period was only two minutes old when Sean O'Connor was introduced at the expense of Paul Burns. O'Connor went upfront and Stewart Kean dropped back onto the right side of midfield as Gordon Chisholm looked to kick start the home forward line.

Sean could make little difference

Fifteen minutes into the half and it was a static defence that watched as Pat Clarke turned in the box and stroked the ball past Cammy Bell to give the Bully Wee the lead. Queens tried to find a way back in but a free kick on the edge of the box from Stephen Dobbie was unlucky to hit the foot of a Clyde defender before having a chance to trouble Hutton. With 25 minutes of the half gone a Clyde break put McLaren clean through on 'keeper Bell, the winger beat the 'keeper but Neil Macfarlane was back to block the goal bound effort and as the ball was fired back toward goal Steve Tosh managed to make a block on the line to deny the visitors a second.

With a quarter of an hour left to play Gordon Chisholm swapped David Weatherson for Gary Arbuckle hoping that the striker could produce the goods against his former side. There was another change, this time enforced, as Steve Tosh signalled that he had picked up an injury following a crunching tackle in the middle of the park, his replacement was Stephen Simmons.

With time running out Clyde snatched their second to kill off the match, it was a similar move to the first as the ball was crashed into the net by Clarke.

Stephen Dobbie also picked up an injury and spent the last ten minutes on the wing pretty much keeping out of the way as all three subs had been used. So all in all it was a bad day with more players injured and no sign of any improvement from the side as the 2-0 scoreline didn't flatter Clyde.

It all started to go wrong after the last free Saturday so hopefully next week's free Saturday will see a reversal of fortunes.
