QUEENS ARE ON THE RISE
Written and performed by Simon Davidson, this is a fitting tribute to the side that marched towards a Scottish Cup final appearance against Rangers on May 24th 2008.

If you have been to a match at Palmerston in the last few years then you will have heard the song by Chris Belford, titled 'Queen of the South'. It's played as Queens take to the park at the start of each half and we have provided it here for you courtesy of Chris in MP3 format for you to download and play on your PC or MP3 player.
Chris wrote and sung the song, and it was recorded with Davis Bass on guitar & Sandy Sweetman on drums. The encouragement of both Alistair Keenan and Norman Blount were also key in the final version of the song that you hear at Palmerston every home game.

POETRY
The first entry in this section comes from Russel James Campbell who wrote:
"Thought you might be interested in this poem that I found in my Uncle's home in Collin, By Dumfries.
My Great Grandfather, Robert Douglas, who was an avid Queens' Supporter in his day, who attended all home games I'm told, and must have acquired a copy of this poem that his Grandson and my Uncle, with the same name, had in his home."
"The Queens"
Hail ! Queen of the South, I write in your praise,
For you've been a brilliant combination all your days,
Thousands go every week to Palmerston Park,
And watch you get off your mark,
And when you play there's no one on the street,
Except the Bobby on his lonely beat,
Your Supportes come from all over the world,
Wherever the Scottish Flag is unfurled,
I once saw a fellow from Ecclefechan,
Who came in at the last minute - fair pechan,
He said the bus driver said you'd get a tannin' ,
So he got out and ran all the way from Annan,
O it's a great thing this football fever,
You get as keen as a wean with a peever,
Some people fling their hats in the air,
And some wriggle about like a rat in a snare,
And it is quite apparent they hate the referee,
For the way they treat him is most painful to see,
They don't say "Excuse me, Mr. Ref , was that a goal ?",
They say "Away, Fish-Face and stick yer heid in a hole !",
And every time the poor man blows his whistle,
They're sure to give him another chistle,
Yes, it's a dangerous trade without a doot,
For someone's always ready to pull his liver oot,
Then a policeman takes him home in a taxi,
For if they didn't he would soon be a braxy,
(That's a latin word meaning "DEAD SHEEP" which happens when they eat a frozen neep).
But I must tell you more about "The Queens",
For they are full of (Runner) beans,
It's great to see Mr. Savage,
Ravegly oot the Ba' ,
Which lands with a plonk,
Beside Jacky Law.
Then he passes it oot to Charlie Johnstone,
Who promptly sets off on his ownsome,
To put across a perfect lob,
For Billy Houliston to finish the job,
And the noise when you score is something terrific,
( I have heard it in Silloth across the Pacific ).
And the Directors respond in a generous manner,
For letting us in for one-and -a-tanner,
O Yes mighty Queens, you're a marvellous team,
And held everywhere in the greatest esteem,
As a matter of fact you're The Spice of Man's Life,
For when you're at home - he's away from the wife.
THE END
The second has been sent in by Jim Brunton from Edinburgh and is taken from the book, "Scotland's Century" by Colin Bell.
The whistle blew, the game was o'er
The good old Queens had won once more
The football world sat up and gazed
And said now how was this team raised
Scouts and spies from near and far
Came rushing down by train and car
To see if they could only guess
The secret of the Babe's success
They all ran home and yelled 'We're beat
The whole darn team eats Yardley's meat!'
