HOGGY'S NEW DEAL 26th July 2001
It is very likely that Alan Hogg will be offered a new deal to stay with Queen's for the forthcoming season after his performances in the pre-season friendlies. His energy and running when used from the bench against Darlington lifted the game for Queens on Wednesday evening and only the cruel luck of a double dose of the upright kept the former Ashington forward from securing a victory for the Doonhamers.
SOME FAMILIAR FACES? 26th July 2001
We have been advised that the Newcastle United side that will travel to Palmerston for Saturday's friendly encounter, 2.00pm kick-off, may feature some familiar faces. It is hoped that a number of the Newcastle first team who are presently recovering from injury may well use the match as a training exercise. Amongst those presently recovering for the North East of England side are Alan Shearer, Robert Lee, Kieron Dyer and Carl Cort, all first team regulars when fully fit. We may also see former Queens youth players Ryan McGuffie and Colin McMennamin in the side, McMennamin was the scorer of all five goals in the Magpies second strings 5-2 defeat of Alnwick town last night.
NEW SIGNING 24th July 2001
Former Sunderland youth player and England Under 16 Internationalist Gareth McGhie, the left sided midfielder who has played as a trialist in all of our pre-season matches so far, has today agreed terms and signed up.

McGhie has come through the Sunderland youth academy and is highly rated, he was part of the England Under 16 squad in 1999 and travelled to Turkey to take part in an International friendly. He has also played for Grimsby recently as a trialist.

There are some injury worries ahead of Wednesday's friendly encounter versus Darlington as Stuart Davidson, Alan Grey and Graham Connell all face late fitness tests.

Remember that the pricing for this match is as follows:

Adult - £5.00 - All parts of the ground
OAP's - £FREE - All parts of the ground
Children - £1.00 - Old stand
Children - £FREE - All other parts of the ground
MAN OF THE MATCH 24th July 2001
A three way tie was the result of the voting after Saturday's 4-0 victory over Chester-le-Street in the North East. Paddy Atkinson, Jim Thomson and John O'Neill all scored a creditable 7.5 with the team generally scoring high across the board.

DON'T FORGET YOUR QUEENS TOP! 20th July 2001
Don't forget that during the summer break Bruce Wright, the QOS programme editor is asking all Doonhamer fans to pack in their suitcase a Queens shirt, hat, scarf etc., and while on holiday, be it Sandyhills or Santiago, get a photo taken wearing them. He will then feature them in next season's programme as "Queens on Tour" - as Bruce says this could be your claim to fame, so go on.

You can send your photos in to QOS Programme, c/o Solway Offset, 11 Catherinefield Industrial Estate, Heathhall, Dumfries, DG1 3PQ, or email them to the website by clicking HERE
MAN OF THE MATCH 20th July 2001
A solid middle of the park performance from John O'Neill saw him capture the fans vote in the man of the match competition for the friendly win versus Workington on Tuesday evening. Tied in second place were Alan Gray and Andy Aitken who ensured that there was little for 'keeper Jamie Campbell to do throughout the hard fought match.

TO LE-STREET 19th July 2001
Our opponents on Saturday are Chester-le-Street Town FC, if you don't know anything about the team then for a brief introduction visit their website at www.chester-le-street-townfc.co.uk.

The site doesn't contain any directions, however for those of you planning to travel, it is quite easy to find their Moor Park ground. Heading south from Gateshead on the A1M you leave the motorway at junction 63 and head towards Chester-le-Street, take the A167 and follow it towards Durham. Within a couple of miles you will drive under a railway bridge and the ground lies 500 yards further on on the left hand side. It is pretty well hidden from the road as it lies behind a pub called the Chester Moor. You actually have to drive through the pub car park to get to the ground along a rough track and into their compact car park.

NO TICKET REQUIRED 19th July 2001
Hamilton have confirmed that the opening league encounter at their New Douglas Park Stadium will not be all ticket, it is expected however that there will be a large crowd so make sure that you get to the ground early.

Adult - £5.00 - All parts of the ground
OAP's - £FREE - All parts of the ground
Children - £1.00 - Old stand

REDS ROUTE 16th July 2001
If you are planning to travel to Workington tomorrow night you might find the following directions useful:

Leave the A/M74 at the junction with the M6 at Carlisle and head through the town towards Workington and the West, follow the A595 towards Cockermouth and then onto the A66 towards Workington, stay on the A66 until in Workington and then head for the town centre, follow the signs to the North for the A597 and look out for the Tesco store, the ground is close to it.

It will cost you £4.00 to get in and don't be surprised to see a couple of former Queen's players in the Reds side as Craig Potts has recently signed and Graeme Love is attending their pre-season training.
YOUR VOTING 16th July 2001
The Man of the Match voting for the two games in the successful defence of the Scottish Brewers Cup have now been counted with strikers taking both awards. TROPHY RETAINED 15th July 2001

John Connolly was in buoyant mood this evening following an excellent performance today versus what was in effect a very strong Livingston side, more or less their first division side from last term.

John was full of praise for his players who he felt had performed fantastically over the two days and who he felt had put in excellent performances both days. He tells us that he now feels that he has the level of quality that is necessary to make an impact on the second division as he has followed the words of one of his former bosses Willie Ormond who John tells us always said that you have to buy good players. And to confirm the bosses intent we can confirm that Andy Aitken has resigned with the club for next season and also that three goal hero Mark Patterson, who put in two excellent performances over the weekend scoring three goals in the process has also signed up subject to international clearance.

Chairman Ronnie Bradford was likewise full of praise for the side that John Connolly has now firmly put his stamp on as he told the website that the displays of both sets of players over the weekend had been superb and particularly in the final on Sunday when they were up against a full time team with a lot of well known and good quality players in their midst. Ronnie finished by congratulating the entire backroom staff for assembling one of the best squads seen at Palmerston form many years and for already having molded them into what is sure to be a force to be reckoned with this coming season.
LINE UP'S DECIDED 14th July 2001
The line up for the final games in the Scottish Brewers Trophy were decided this evening when Livingston recorded a comfortable 4-0 victory over Hamilton. The young Livvie Lions had former Queen's loan signing Stewart Grecean and Marvin Andrews outstanding in the heart of their defence and never looked like losing the tie.

With Queen's disposing of Annan Athletic earlier in the day in one of the highest scoring games you are likely to see, 9-4, the scene is set for a competitive final to the competition tomorrow with a 3.30pm kick-off. Also remember that Annan and Hamilton will be facing each other with a 12:30pm kick-off and with Annan probably playing a stronger side there is a good chance of an upset.
FIRST GAMES 13th July 2001
Pre-season starts in earnest tomorrow at 12:30pm as Annan Athletic host a Queen's side in the Invitational Scottish Brewers Trophy. With Livingston and Hamilton making up the quartet the competition looks set to be of a high standard. Queen's are, of course, the holders of the Trophy having secured it this time last season with a 4-1 win over Whitehill Welfare in the first game with Mark Weir netting a hat-trick and then following that win up with a 3-0 demolition of the host side in the final on the Sunday with Warren Hawke this time netting a hat-trick. Annan are without doubt the strongest non-league side in the country and have considerably strengthened their side this season as they successfully defended their East League title, they boast a number of former Queen's players in their side, notably Kevin Proudfoot, who will be hoping that he makes the full ninety minutes tomorrow after last season's sending off in the final, Kevin Robison, the most recent Doonhamer to make the journey down and Mark Nicol.

Expect to see a few young and unfamiliar faces in Queen's strips tomorrow as John Connolly sees how the trialists look in a competitive match and has a look at some of the younger players in the squad, whatever side is fielded though you can always expect a tough match against what will surely be a strong Annan side.

It's an early start for the Doonhamers but probably the shortest journey they will make all season for a competitive encounter away from Palmerston, leave half an hour if traveling from Dumfries, the Galabank ground is situated in North Street on the outskirts of the town, head north when you get to the traffic lights in the town centre, it's about a mile out of the town centre and can't be missed.
TOURNAMENT START TIMES 11th July 2001
This weekend's Annan Tournament will kick-off on Saturday at 12:30 with the host side taking on Queens, in the afternoon Hamilton and Livingston will play their game with a 3.30pm kick-off.

On Sunday the third/fourth place play off will start at 12:30 and the final will commence at 3.30pm.
DIAMONDS AGAIN 11th July 2001
The draw for the first round of the Bell's Challenge Cup was made this morning with Queen's again being paired with regular cup opponents Airdrie. The tie to take place on 7th August at New Broomfield.
JUNIOR FUN 9th July 2001
The Junior Blues met on Saturday at Palmerston and a great time was enjoyed by all attending, Commercial Manager Margaret Heuchan tells us:

"We had around 35 children ages ranging from 4 - 16. On arrival everyone completed a brain teasing Wordsearch. The winner, Stuart Fergusson from Dumfries, received a Dougie the Doonhamer T Shirt. Then we all made our way down to the pitch where Warren Pearson, Ian Scott, Paddy Atkinson and Junior Blues' favourite Peter Weatherson put the children through their paces with a mock Training Session. Great fun, although exhausting in the heat, particularly for Dougie the Doonhamer. The children then met the players, who kindly signed autographs and posed for photographs. We finished the afternoon with a visit into the Board Room museum, then juice and crisps kindly donated by Safeway.

A good time was had by all and we hope to see everyone back at Palmerston at the beginning of the season."
