Pre-holiday signing talks 30th May 2006
Before jetting off tomorrow for a 12 day holiday in Barcelona, Ian McCall said he was 'talking' to three or four prospective signings but stressed, "Nothing's been decided yet". However, the manager did add, "There's no strikers on that list, for with Graham Weir joining us we now have five and that's sufficient. There's little news apart from that! No more 'friendlies' arranged yet, just the ones already mentioned--the two against Southern Counties opposition, the match against Kilmarnock at Palmerston and the Annan Tournament. But pre-season training will commence on the 19th of June and I'm looking for all the players to return fit, healthy and raring to go.

"Before signing off, I'd just like to take this opportunity to congratulate all members of our Under-13 squad who won the big International Youth Tournament at Ayr yesterday. To do it once is great, but two years in a row--brilliant".

U13's Retain Trophy 29th May 2006
Queen of the South Under 13's won the Ayr International Youth Tournament for the second consecutive year today beating Edinburgh City 2-0 in an exciting final. Goals came from Grant Middlemiss who also won the Man of the Match and Golden Boot award. This competition is one of the more prestigious in youth football and our own manager Ian McCall took part in it himself as a youngster with Greystone Rovers many years ago.

Queens youths had to win six matches to retain the trophy and this took place over three days. They scored no fewer than twenty seven goals with none conceded which was a record for the tournament. Top marksmen were both Queens lads - Grant Middlemiss with eight and Habib Abdul with seven.

All members of the squad hailed from Dumfries and Galloway which augers well for the future. A tremendous weekend was had by all and it was a fitting gesture that Chairman David Rae was at Palmerston to welcome the party back home at 5.00pm this evening.

Route to the final

Group stage - Cookstown (Northern Ireland) 3-0
Group stage - St Mary's (Eire) 4-0
Group stage - Ayr Boswell 4-0
Quarter final - Lurgan (Northern Ireland) 8-0

A 'hat-trick' for McCall 24th May 2006
Ian McCall was 'over the moon' today after securing the services of three players yesterday. His biggest coup was persuading Graham Weir to sign for the club once his present contract at Tynecastle expires. Said the manager, "Graham says he's delighted, I'm delighted and I'm sure the fans will be delighted. He linked well with Sean O'Connor at the end of last season and I'm hoping they will continue from where they left off." Added the player himself, "Although I was only 'on-loan' the fans have been brilliant since 'day one' so I'm looking forward to signing now and becoming a real Queen of the South player."
The other two are former Stranraer skipper, Murray Henderson and former St Johnstone and Falkirk midfielder, John Henry, who both signed last night.

On Murray Henderson the manager recalls, "He first came to my attention when he scored against us for Stranraer when I was manager at Dundee United and I've kept an eye on him ever since. He's looking to do well at Palmerston and at 6 feet 3 inches he'll certainly add height to the defence. We've now got Jim Thomson, Andy Aitken and Murray competing for two positions and, as I see it, that's healthy competition.
"As far as John Henry's concerned, I've known him for a very long time--ever since he played in the SPL with Kilmarnock. He's very experienced, has guile and reads the game well. He'll add composure to the midfield and allow us to play a new system I'd like to try out."
Murray has signed a two year contract and John a one year deal. Both are free agents so no fees are involved. Murray, who hails from Carluke, featured in all four local derbies between Queens and Stranraer last season and remembers every one of them as "hard fought battles". He added, "I actually played my first match for Stranraer against Queens. It was in the Challenge Cup, and Queens were the holders at that time, but we beat them 2-1 at Stair Park. I realise I'm moving to a bigger club with a much bigger fan base and I'm looking forward to the challenge. Queens are now approaching their fifth season in the First Division which is amazing for a part-time club."

John Henry also admitted he was looking forward to pulling on a Queen of the South strip and said, "It's nice to be re-acquainted with Ian McCall again. I played under him when he was manager at Airdrie and later at Falkirk and he's a good boss. I'm also looking forward to seeing Andy Thomson again.

"I think I turned out in three of the four matches for St Johnstone against Queens last season and I noticed a big improvement from early season to their end-of-season form. But I'll never forget that header from big Kevin James which resulted in an own-goal in that match late in the season."

Two new signings 23rd May 2006
Queens tonight completed the signings of two new players, defender Murray Henderson signed a two year deal and joins from Stranraer whilst midfielder John Henry penned a one year contract upon leaving his former side St Johnstone. Also at tonight's photo-shoot was Hearts player Graham Weir who has decided to pledge his future to Queen of the South. Although the tenacious striker can't sign right away as his contract at Hearts runs until June 1st everything has been agreed and the move will take place as soon as possible.

Davie Rae and Ian McCall introduce new signings Murray Henderson (second right) and John Henry (right) whilst Graham Weir looks set to join them at the start of June.

'Bowser' says his farewells 22nd May 2006
Practically every Queen of the South fan was sorry to learn of the departure of Steve Bowey. For over four years at Palmerston 'Bowser' was an inspirational member of the squad and a huge favourite with the supporters. In an emotional message to all Queens' fans he said, "Throughout my time at Palmerston you have been immense and I've really appreciated the support you have given me. I couldn't have wished for better and I'll miss you all a lot. It was a wrench to leave and I don't mind admitting that there was a tear in my eye when I walked out the door as a player for the last time.

"I have many great memories from the time I spent at Queens and plenty of 'highs'--winning the Second Division Championship, lifting the Challenge Cup and being voted 'Player of the Year' two seasons running are just a few. One of my funniest moments was up at Brechin a few weeks ago when we secured our First Division place for another season. Most of the fans were in fancy dress and I'll never forget the guys with the 'Bowser' masks. Brilliant!

"Although sad and disappointed, I leave with no hard feelings, for everyone at the club has been great and I wish Queens all the best for the future. Football's a funny old game and it's now time for me to move on. I've no immediate plans at present but I fly off to Ibiza today for a holiday in the sun and a bit of relaxation. It will give me an opportunity to contemplate my future and I'll decide what I'm going to do on my return".

And in his final statement he stressed, "Queens are the best club I've played for so I can only say to you, the fans, keep supporting them--they're your local club--or else, 'Bowser's gonna get you'!"

QoS Old Boys 22nd May 2006
Auckinleck Talbot (AKA Queens old-boys) deservedly won the Scottish Junior Cup by beating millionaire-backed Bathgate 2-1. Managed by Tommy Sloan and captained by goalie Stuart McIntosh they also had keeper Stuart Robertson on the bench, Derek Anderson in defence, Stuart Davidson in midfield and Stevie Mallan up front with Craig Feroz on the bench. Stevie was man of the match after scoring one and assisting with the winner. His goal was easily the most amazing one of his long career - a header on into the area from at least 30 yards which somehow found the net.

Stevie and Derek star in Junior Cup Final 21st May 2006
Congratulations to Auchinleck Talbot on winning the Scottish Junior Cup for a record seventh time this afternoon. They beat Bathgate 2-1 at Rugby Park and two former Queens' favourites played a major role in their victory.

That 'old war horse', Stevie Mallen, was involved in both goals, scoring the opener with an amazing 40 yard header which, somehow, found its way into the net and then laid on the winner for his team mate, Boyle. Another who played a big part in defence was Derek Anderson, despite a remarkable diving header which led to a spectacular own goal.

Both of them, however, are no strangers to cup finals. Stevie was a member of the Queen's side which lost 1-0 to Falkirk in the Challenge Cup at Fir Park in 1997, while Derek was in the team which actually won the trophy at Broadwood five years later, when we beat Brechin City 2-0.

Season Review - Part 2 20th May 2006
It's part two of the Season Review tonight as the season started in proper with the first league games and an early exit from two cups!
Two new signings imminent 19th May 2006
Ian McCall confirmed to the 'Website' this afternoon that talks with two new players, Stranraer skipper, Murray Henderson and St Johnstone's John Henry are almost completed and it's hoped that both will sign early next week.

Murray Henderson: (Defender). Age 25, Height 6 feet 3 inches. Was signed from Balmore Amateurs and has been the 'backbone' of the Stair Park defence for the past three seasons.

John Henry: (Midfield). Age 34, Height 5 feet 11 inches. A very experienced professional whose former clubs include Clydebank, Kilmarnock, Airdrie, Falkirk and St Johnstone.

The manager also stated that after a meeting with Steve Bowey an arrangement had been agreed so 'Bowser' has now officially left the club. All at Palmerston wish him well. With 'Bowser's' departure it means that since the January 'Window', no fewer than 12 players have left, albeit three of them youngsters. Only four, Andy Aitken, Andy Thomson, Sean O'Connor and Michael Mullen have actually been brought in if Graham Weir, Ryan McStay and Shaun Dillon are discounted. Added the manager, "I'm still looking at players right from goalkeeper to strikers, but if we manage to land 'Weiro' we won't be signing any more strikers."

He also made it clear that, despite rumours on unofficial websites, he had no intention of 'walking out' on Queens and stressed, "It's never entered my head for myself and the club operate on trust. But if it helps I can tell you right now that the official contract which has been lying in my drawer at Palmerston for the past few weeks is now signed. So, end of story!"

Asked about his feelings on the new proposals on transfer regulations which the SFL appear almost certain to vote in at their AGM next Friday Ian admitted, "I haven't really had time to study it yet but, yes, it appears good". The main criteria (which applies to SFL clubs only) would allow clubs to sign players on loan throughout all of next season. The transfer 'window' would also remain open in the SFL until the end of August unlike the SPL where it runs for only 12 weeks.

But the biggest change will apply to emergency loans, lasting three months, which clubs will be able to negotiate even when the transfer 'window' is closed. The one requirement is that no club can have more than five loan players named in their squad.

No new signings yet 16th May 2006
Ian McCall stated today that he's still not signed any new players but hopes that something might happen before the weekend. Stressed the manager, "So far, no one new has been signed yet, but we're talking to quite a few players and with a bit of luck I might have something to report come Friday. As far as I know, Ryan McStay has been made an offer by Falkirk. Falkirk are not my club and I don't have a say in the matter but it's a bit disappointing as he's a class player and was improving with every game. I've told Shaun Dillon that he won't be offered anything, but I have invited him to join us for pre-season training to enable him to keep fit. Then we'll see how it goes from there.

"Talks are still ongoing with Stuart Lovell and Graham Weir. As far as 'Weiro's' concerned we're awaiting word from Hearts. However, both these players are under contract until the beginning of June so we'll just have to be patient".

Asked how he felt about Partick coming up the manager said he was quite happy and added, "They're a big club and if all goes well will bring a large travelling support to Palmerston which will benefit Queens financially. However, we'll be the only part-time side in First Division next season and that will make it harder than ever. And no doubt the bookies will have favourites to be relegated as usual".

Bill Goldie
The 'Jags' win through 14th May 2006
Partick Thistle beat Peterhead 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out up north this afternoon to earn them promotion to the First Division next season. But the Firhill men had to do it the hard way. Trailing 2-1 from the home leg, they went behind after only five minutes but hit back quickly to equalise just three minute later.

Time was running out for them but a goal, two minutes into 'injury time' saw it end all-square at 3-3. So it went to a nerve-wracking 'shoot-out' and to the delight of the big travelling support, Thistle emerged winners.

It's ironic that the Firhill side actually finished fourth in the table, yet they'll be playing Division One football come August. Fair or unfair--that is the question!

David Rae, however, was delighted with the result which could realise around £25,000 for the club's finances next season. Said the Chairman, "Without any disrespect whatsoever for Peterhead who are a most friendly club, it was the result we were hoping for. Partick will bring a big travelling support to Palmerston, plus the fact we will be saved two trips to Peterhead which would have meant overnight 'stop-overs', and that's very costly. It's a big boost for us financially and I'm very pleased". He jokingly added, "Not only that, it's so close to our manager's home he will be able to walk to Firhill for the games which will save the club petrol money".

Bill Goldie
Old boys 13th May 2006
Nice to see some Queen's old boys help to put on a great show in the Scottish Cup final today. Robbie Neilson was particularly impressive for Hearts with a wonderful tackle that prevented former Stranraer striker David Graham from levelling the scores. Whilst on the other side big Deggsie was strong at the back but will have a long memory of his missed spot kick in the penalty shoot out whilst former Queen's trialist and Dumfries lad Ryan McGuffie will have a happy memory after scoring following his penalty being saved by Craig Gordon.

Both sides will have gone away from the day happy, Hearts with the trophy and our Dumfriesshire neighbours with some terrific memories for the many locals who witnessed the game.

Two more players to go 11th May 2006
Ian McCall announced this afternoon that two more players are set to leave the club. Said the manager, "Tommy English, whose contract expires in a few days time, has been 'freed' while Steve Bowey has been informed that his services are no longer required. However, 'Bowser' has been a great servant for over four years and his contract runs to May, 2007, so we'll have to come to some arrangement with him".

The players are the only two left from the North-East of England and quite possibly all the travelling which would be involved could well have come into consideration.

Tommy, formerly with Partick Thistle, was signed two years ago and made 49 appearances but was unable to hold down a regular first team place. However, 'Bowser' was an automatic choice up until recent months, turned out no fewer than 151 times, and captained the side for over two years.

One of his most memorable games was in the semi-final of the Challenge Cup when we beat St Mirren 5-3 at Paisley and he proved a big favourite with the Queens' fans who voted him 'Player of the Year' in both 2003 and 2004. He only netted once this past season but what a valuable strike it was. It gave us a 1-0 victory over Stranraer at Palmerston and put us ahead of them for the first time.

We're sure all our fans will wish 'Bowser' and Tommy all the best for the future.

'Manager of the Month'--again 11th May 2006
Ian McCall today received another SFL 'Manager of the Month' award--his second in the space of three months. Said Ian. "I'm delighted, not just for myself but for the players, the fans and everyone connected with the club. After looking doomed we made a great recovery and towards the end of the season had a good run of six matches unbeaten. We let ourselves down in the last fixture against Dundee but it was all settled by then and was 'a game too far'. The players rose to the occasion in those last two months but were rewarded with good win bonuses and a trip to Barcelona by the Board of Directors. So everyone was happy!"

The Second Division award was given jointly to Peterhead's Iain Stewart and Allan Maitland of Alloa Athletic while Cowdenbeath boss Mixu Paatelainen received the Third Division award.

Penalty Kings 11th May 2006
At the annual Travel Club awards a couple of weeks ago, the subject of penalty kick experts arose. Obviously the name John O'Neill cropped up and as if by magic the player himself walked by at the same time and joined in the banter. With Ewan Lithgow and Colin Paterson involved it was soon worked out that John had scored ten goals this season, five of them from the 'spot' and in his two spells at Palmerston had only missed twice in 22 efforts.

said John, "I remember them both well, one was against Berwick and the other against Stranraer. I usually blast them but on those two occasions I changed my mind in the run-up and tried to place them. The keepers saved them both and ever since then I've gone back to my normal method and it's proved successful".

Over the years Queens have had several players who have been 'Penalty Kings'. One of our oldest supporters, Arnott Marchbank (now 80) recalls Tommy Lang, Joe Tulip and Jim Patterson while Allan Ball remembers John Murphy, Iain McChesney and George Cloy. But perhaps one of the best ever penalty-kick takers in Scottish football was Rangers left-winger of the 1960's, Johnny Hubbard, who scored 54 out of 57.

But even he couldn't compare with the Russian, Josif Sabo, who played for several famous clubs throughout the '60s and early '70s including Dynamo Kiev and Dynamo Moscow. He turned out in over 350 club games and also represented the national side--he took a total of 73 penalties and never missed one. Some record!.

Queens playing in Spain? 6th May 2006
Never mind Gretna being in the Scottish Cup Final, what about Queens playing in Spain's top league despite being only a single day in Barcelona. Well, according to today's 'Daily Record' we meet Dundee in La Liga today. Maybe it's to do with Ian McCall referring to Dundee 'playing like Real Madrid' at Palmerston last Saturday or perhaps just a boob in the 'Record'. But methinks it's the latter and they've forgotten to take a line of last week's fixtures out.

An appeal 4th May 2006
Sometime during the second half of the game against Dundee on Saturday a Queens Club Shop carrier bag was taken from the Boardroom at Palmerston. In the bag was an autographed Queens top and two video cassettes, the cassettes contained footage of the entire first half of the match but much more importantly the pre-match retirement presentations to Doctor Archie Downie and Vi Crawford. The footage was to be given to both the Doc and Vi but now sadly it appears that this will not be possible.

Whether the bag was taken in error or not the tapes will be of no value to anyone and we would like to appeal to whoever now has them to please return them to Palmerston.

Sean talks going well 4th May 2006
Before jetting off to sunny Barcelona with his Queens' squad tomorrow, manager Ian McCall stated, "Very little of importance has happened over the past couple of days but I've got to say that talks with Sean O'Connor are going very well." He also confirmed that two of our young players will be remaining at Palmerston and added, "Gareth Campbell has already signed and Mark Whorlow has agreed to. I'm still in talks with a lot of players at present and while in Barcelona I'll take the chance to speak to some of our own lads whose contracts have expired. Come Tuesday it will be back to normality again but this is always a very busy time of the season".

Programme collectors should have 21 in the last season's set, 18 league games plus 3 cup ties (Albion, St Mirren and Hamilton). The numbering went a bit wonky twice so there are 2 number 6's (Airdrie, St Johnstone) and 2 13's (Hamilton and Airdrie) and no number 14.

Two presentations 2nd May 2006
Presentations took place at Palmerston on Saturday for two members of staff in appreciation of their services to the club. Vi Crawford, one of our tea ladies for around 25 years, received a decanter while our team doctor, Archie Downie, was presented with momentums for his valued service. Archie was actually the S.F.A. official doctor for many years during the 1960's and in charge of the Scottish squad in over 40 international matches. Now 72, Archie says he's looking forward to his 'retirement' but will always be on hand for advice. He joked, "I commenced my football doctoring under a Scottish manager called Ian McCall and I'm finishing under a Queens' manager with the same name. Quite a coincidence!".

Signing updates 2nd May 2006
Ian McCall insisted this morning that at present, only one player, Andy Thomson, had so far re-signed. But the manager did state, "Talks are ongoing at the moment with three other players--Sean O'Connor, Stuart Lovell and Graham Weir". It is believed that the latter may be released by Hearts when the Premier League season comes to a close.

However, Ian dismissed as 'bunkum' reports in the national papers and on teletext that he has already signed Alex Burke and St Johnstone's John Henry and added, "I have spoken to both these players but talks are still at a very early stage." Ex-Queens man 'Burky' has already been released by Ross County and scored over 15 valuable goals for us in season 2003-04. Henry, an experienced midfielder, was previously at Falkirk and Kilmarnock. But the manager stressed, "I'm speaking to a lot of players at the moment and although the 'windows' don't officially open until May 15th I can sign them now if I wanted to."

He did admit that he was in dialogue with a prospective goalkeeper but that talks with former Airdrie United skipper, Stephen Docherty, were currently 'on hold'. He added that, apart from those mentioned last week, no other players had left the club. Ian thanked the Travel Club for inviting him and the players along to their end-of-season awards on Saturday and said, "It was a great night, we all enjoyed it and I was pleased to see such a good turn out."

An end of season message from the Chairman 1st May 2006
Speaking to the 'Website' this week Chairman, David Rae, warned Queens fans to prepare for another loss this season but did stress that, unlike many clubs in Scottish football, Queen of the South were still 'in the black'. Added the Chairman, "Apart from surviving in the First Division for four consecutive seasons which, for a part time club was a feat in itself, nothing much else has gone for us since August. Not one decent draw in any of the cup competitions, knocked out in the early rounds in all three and adding to that the fact that'll we'll be losing the Bell's sponsorship next season. That will lose every S.F.L. club a good deal of money which we can ill afford unless another sponsor can be found. Coming so soon after losing the 'pools' money it's a bitter blow financially.

"In the league we started very badly and come the end of October had only one win and seven points so we took the step of terminating the contract of the then manager, Iain Scott and it was 'just in the nick of time' for if we'd waited any longer we would have ended up in the Second Division. In a case like that I must always put the club first. Personally, I think we should have acted sooner before the summer 'window' closed. Had we done so it would have allowed the new manager the opportunity to bring in new players at a much earlier date. At the beginning of November we brought in Ian McCall and it's been a decision I've never regretted."

When was the turning point in the season we asked the Chairman. "In my mind it was back in February at Dundee. Despite scoring in the first minute we went 2-1 behind. In the past that was when 'heads used to drop' but the manager made two inspirational substitutions, bringing on Michael Mullen and Gary Wood and they both scored great goals which saw us win 3-2. Coming home on the team coach that night I just had a 'gut feeling' that we'd 'turned the corner' and, thank goodness' I was right!. After that we only lost one match and that was at St Mirren with the winner coming late in injury time.
"Another massive result however was beating Stranraer 1-0 at Palmerston in March. If we'd lost that one we would have trailed them by five points but, as it turned out, we went a point ahead of them. That was one of the most important goals that Steve Bowey ever scored for us."

The Chairman went on to reveal that home league attendances were again down but added, "It's only slightly but it's still disappointing. I was really quite concerned at the halfway mark of the season when the average was as low as 1535. However, as results improved it began to rise again and by May it had improved quite a bit.

Bowsers most important goal
"For next season the Board have decided to increase some admission prices but lower others. Last season we only charged the First Division minimum of £12 but this will go up to £14. However, concessions for Senior Citizens will remain the same at £6. The price for juveniles will decrease from £6 to £3 and the new rate for a Junior Blues season ticket will reduce from £45 to £18. At only £1 a game that's really good value but they are our fans of the future so I feel we must look after them. Adult season ticket will go up from £200 to £220 but Senior Citizen's tickets will remain the same at £100.

"We are extremely fortunate to have a tremendous travelling support but sometimes I get annoyed to think they are 'subsidising' other clubs with their loyalty. For instance, it we take 400 fans to clubs who are charging £15 admission they would take in £6000, but if that same club comes to Palmerston with 150 supporters who get in for £12 we would only get £1800. That's a difference of £4200 and if that happens twice in a season, and it has, that other club would benefit by £8400 which is a lot of money.

'Tremendous travelling support'
"I've already had talks with Ian McCall regarding the future and I'll be discussing it with him further when he and the players return from their deserved holiday break in Barcelona. However, contracts nowadays are full of 'loop-holes' and 'get-out clauses', so nothing's 100 per cent binding. But one thing we have in our favour is the fact that his mother stays in Dumfries. She was our guest in the Boardroom on Saturday and talking to her you could tell that Ian and her were very close. Of course, as you all know, Ian himself was born and brought up in the town and has supported Queens since boyhood."

When asked who he would like to see win the dreaded 'play-offs' he laughed and responded, "Any club as long as it's not Peterhead. Nothing personal--they're lovely people up there but it's such a long journey, an overnight stay and very costly for the club. I wouldn't mind any of the other three!. Both Morton and Partick Thistle have big travelling supports and Stranraer would mean three clubs from our region playing in the same league and eight 'local derbies'--and that's never happened before. Not only that but the last Stranraer game brought in a crowd of 2890, our biggest gate of the season.

"On the subject of Stranraer, I was sorry to hear that Jim Bark was given up the chairmanship at the end of the season. Jim was a good friend of mine and served Stranraer faithfully for over 40 years.

"I'd like to end by saying a big 'thank-you' to all the fans who have supported us faithfully through a long and stressful season. You have been magnificent!. Also, my sincere thanks to all those involved in the running of Queen of the South Football Club, in particular those who give of their time and talents voluntarily. I'm not going to name names for someone is bound to be missed out but I'm thinking specially of those dedicated individuals who were out there on Palmerston on a bitterly cold February night helping the groundstaff lay the protective covers to enable Saturday's game to go ahead. You are the lifeblood of the club!. Up the Queens!."

Player of the Season 1st May 2006
The internet fan club members vote throughout the season for the best performers in each competitive game played. These scores are averaged after every match and recorded in the player of the season league table. The averaged scores from each match are then added together as the season progresses giving a league table based on performances. And to keep things fair the players have to have played in over fifty per cent of the number of matches played by the player who has made most appearances in the season if they are to be considered for the IFC player of the season award.

In previous seasons the award has been won by; 1999/00 - Warren Hawke, 2000/01 - Peter Weatherson, 2001/02 - Andy Aitken, 2002/03 - Steve Bowey, 2003/04 - Steve Bowey, 2004/05 - Jim Thomson and this year the award has been won by Richie Barnard. Second place in the league table went to fellow goalkeeper Colin Scott and third to Paul Burns.

Thanks to everyone who voted throughout the season with over 35,000 individual votes being cast.
Man of the Match 1st May 2006
Loan star Graham Weir took first place in the man of the match voting on Saturday, second place went to Stuart Lovell whilst Ryan McStay gained third.

The player of the season league table has been finalised updated and all of the individual scores added to the latest match report. Thanks for voting.
'Player of the Year' aftermath 30th April 2006
Jim Thomson and Paul Burns more-or-less scooped the pool in the Travel Club's annual awards held last night with both of them lifting two trophies apiece. Ross Corbett and Pam Davers once again acted as M.C.'s and welcomed all present. After the awards ceremony they bade a fond farewell to the 'Big Yin', Brian Reid and the 'Wee Yin', Brian McLaughlin who were both leaving the club. This was greeted by a big cheer and a huge round of applause.

In his speech the Chairman joked, "Our manager thought I was going to buy him a Ferrari. Well Ian, I tried every garage and car showroom in and around our area. They had them in black, white, green and blue but alas not one in red--the colour you requested." But on a more serious note he praised the players, the manager and the fans for helping the club achieve 'Mission Impossible'.

When he took to the stage Ian McCall confessed that although he'd taken Dundee United to fifth spot in the Premier League, won the First Division Championship with Falkirk and saved Airdrie from virtual extinction, helping Queens remain in Division One was his greatest achievement of all. Said the manager, "Standing in that rickety old grandstand at Brechin last Saturday thanking the fans for all their support must rate as my proudest moment in football. Being a Dumfries boy it meant so much to me." He then led the assembled company in a couple of choruses of 'We are the Queen, the Queen of the South'.

Passport woe for Andy 30th April 2006
Spare a thought for poor Andy Aitken!. When his team-mates jet off to Barcelona on Friday for a four day break he will be at home cursing his luck. Said the gutted defender, "I thought I had nothing to do but go to the drawer and look out my passport. But when I found it I couldn't believe my eyes!. It was a month out of date. There was no way I could get it renewed in such a short space of time so that was that. But it's my own fault. So while the other player are soaking up the sun in the Catalan capital Andy will be stuck at home in Annan.

Chairman's message 30th April 2006
Another season rolls to a close today--at least for us. It proved an eventful one and a real 'roller-coaster' ride. Some teams have still to compete in the play-offs but, thank goodness, we've been spared all that. At the end of October we were stuck at the foot of the table with only one win and seven points and the decision was taken to dispose of the services of our then manager, Iain Scott. In November we brought in Ian McCall and it's been a decision I've never regretted. Our fortunes didn't exactly change overnight and come New Year we were still second bottom with only nine points, 12 behind Stranraer the team above us. But come the January 'Window' Ian managed to get new players in and that made all the difference.

In our last 12 games we have only lost once and collected 23 points into the bargain and the draw at Brechin on Saturday ensured us a First Division place for a fifth consecitive season. Ian has done a marvellous job for us and has achieved 'Mission Impossible'. It would have been nice to have won at Glebe Park especially for our fans but a draw was sufficient. We had about 450 supporters up, many of them in fancy dress, and I'm very disappointed that they weren't featured on 'Scotsport' on Sunday as they made it a colourful occasion. And what a welcome we got when the team coach arrived back at Palmerston. There were hundreds of fans in the car park to greet us, still all dressed up. I'm was sorry I couldn't join them for a drink but it had been a long stressful day and I was ready for bed by then. However, I'm glad that one or two of the players joined them to celebrate.

Now we know how we're placed next season, the Board have decided that league admission charges will go up from £12 to £14, but concessions for senior citizens will remain the same at £6. We have been charging the minimum allowed for Division One for the past two years but we must now move with the times. However, we have decided that admission for juveniles will be reduced from £6 to £3 or, if they wish to join the Junior Blues, it will now be only £18 per season. They are our fans of the future so we must look after them. Full details appear in the supplement which is included in this programme.

Today we take on Dundee in our final match of the season. They haven't had their sorrows to seek in recent weeks but they are a 'big club' and I'm sure their fortunes will soon take a turn for the better. We have two special guests joining us in the Boardroom this afternoon, Mrs McCall (our manager's mother) and her sister. So I'm sure Ian will be on his best behaviour with these ladies to keep an eye on him. A warm welcome also to our sponsors and match-day mascots and may I take this chance to thank all the other sponsors who have supported us throughout the past season.

While on the subject, letters are now out for the annual shirt sponsorship draw which takes place on the 25th of May. The winner will have their name emblazoned on the team shirts next season and any one else interested in entering should contact our commercial team of Ian and Margaret Heuchan. And finally, we bid a fond farewell to Vi who is retiring in the close season. Along with Doreen she has worked for many years in the kitchen and we'll be making a small presentation to her just prior to kick-off. Enjoy the game!.

Match reaction 29th April 2006
A disappointing end to the season for Queens this afternoon as they crashed 3-1 to an impressive Dundee side. It was our first home defeat since we lost to Ross County back in November but still a bit of a let down for the 2,624 who had turned up to cheer them on. All the damage was done in a four minute spell midway through the first half when the visitors netted all three of their goals and although Queens pulled one back in the second half they never really looked like closing the gap any further.

Ian McCall took full responsibility for the defeat and admitted, "I was the one to blame, I picked the team and since it was the last game I tried something a bit different this afternoon, it didn't work and in hindsight maybe I shouldn't have done it. We changed it back to normal at half-time but by then it was too late. I apologise to the Queens fans who came out in good numbers today and as manager I feel I let them down. But all credit to Dundee who were brilliant in that first half and deserved to win. They were in all white today and for the first forty five minutes played like Real Madrid but I'm still very proud of my players and what they have achieved this season and I'd like to take this opportunity to wish Gretna all the best in the Scottish Cup Final."

Fond Farewell
Brian Reid made a fond farewell to the fans at the end of the game after being named as sponsors man of the match, said the 'big man', "I'd like to thank the club and the fans who have been good to me, I've thoroughly enjoyed my four seasons at Palmerston but all good things must come to an end. I'm still hoping to carry on playing but perhaps for a club nearer home. However I'll be looking for the Queens results and I'll get along to watch them any time I can. I was proud to get the sponsors man of the match award this afternoon, although I'm well aware it was for sentimental reasons.

Others who will be leaving are, Brian McLaughlin, Colin Scott, Stuart Hill, Chris Carr and Richie Maxwell.
